Aniseikonia testing service

Color Vision Recorder software

Service description

Why aniseikonia testing service?

Optical Diagnostics is dedicated to helping aniseikonia patients.  Since only few eye care providers are equipped with the tools to manage aniseikonia, it is very likely that a patient cannot find any local help.  Therefore, Dr. Gerard de Wit started this internet-based service.

Patient testimonial 6 (excerpt)
... The result was a pair of glasses that substantially diminishes the disparity in image size and achieves a fully acceptable reading and viewing comfort at work and otherwise. Gerard's service and the Aniseikonia Inspector provided me and my ophthalmologist a solution to my vision problem that as far as I can tell was largely unknown in the field, and I am very grateful for the improvement.

Service features
Basically, the service includes:

  1. The measurement of your aniseikonia
  2. Explanation of the results (example)
  3. Optionally: The calculation of an aniseikonia-reducing prescription

1. Measurement of aniseikonia

Your aniseikonia will be measured using the Aniseikonia Inspector software that you will download from the internet and install on your own computer. We will also send you a
pair of red-green glasses and give you instructions on how to self-administer the test.

2. Explanation of results

Dr. de Wit will send you a report (by e-mail) what is the outcome of the measurements.  It will contain information such as:
- how much aniseikonia is present
- if the aniseikonia is field dependent
- if the aniseikonia is direction dependent
- if the results agree with the patient's own experience
- if the aniseikonia is likely to be the cause of the patient's symptoms

- expectations for optical correction possibilities

To get an example of a report by e-mail, please fill out this from.

3. Calculation new prescription

To have a new aniseikonia-reducing prescription calculated, you could go two ways:

  1. With your aniseikonia report at hand you could go to your local optometrist and ask if he/she wants to purchase a copy of the Aniseikonia Inspector software to determine a new prescription for you.  Getting your optometrist actively involved would also be good for the next time you need a new prescription.

  2. Dr. de Wit will determine a new prescription to correct your aniseikonia.  The new prescription(s) will be reported to you in writing (by e-mail).  You can take this report with you to your local optometrist to have the aniseikonia reducing prescription made.  Note, however, that before Dr. de Wit can calculate a new prescription, he will need certain data from your local optometrist.  This data includes frame dimensions and the prescription of the glasses used during the aniseikonia testing.  Option A will in general be the most logical and probably also the most economical.

For whom is this service?

Aniseikonia means that there is a difference in image size between the two eyes.  So, clearly, people with a visible image size difference might benefit from the service.  However, smaller amounts of image size difference (that are not clearly visible by closing one eye at the time) can still give aniseikonic symptoms, such as: a headache, tearing of the eyes, light sensitivity, depth perception problems, etc (for a complete list of symptoms click here).
Patients at risk of aniseikonia are:

  • anisometropes (difference in refractive power between the eyes)
  • pseudophakes or aphakes (people who underwent cataract surgery)
  • refractive surgery patients (LASIK, LASEK, PRK)
  • patients with retinal conditions, such as:
    • epiretinal membrane (macular pucker)
    • (re-attached) retinal detachment
    • macular hole / macular edema / retinoschisis
