I developed aniseikonia secondary to an epiretinal membrane (macular pucker). My eyes teared continuously, and I was very sensitive to light. The local doctors I consulted couldn't help me, and I was fortunate to find Dr. de Wit on the internet (I also found an aniseikonia testing service at Ohio State University, but they charged $2,000, with a 2-month wait for an appointment).  The Aniseikonia Inspector program was easy to set up on my home computer, and the test was fun to do. Unlike other tests which give only one measure of the amount of aniseikonia, the Aniseikonia Inspector provided a detailed description of my condition, with multiple measures in different directions and at different visual field angles. Based on this comprehensive output, Dr. de Wit worked with me and my eye care provider to fine-tune the best possible correction. With my new glasses, my eyes finally stopped tearing, and I'm no longer overly sensitive to light.

... It wasn’t until I reviewed the helpful resources on Dr. de Wit’s Web site that I could put a name to my visual condition. It was a godsend just to have a name for my visual anomaly!

  

Over the next few weeks, I emailed Dr. de Wit many, many questions and in every case, he replied with highly detailed, timely and understandable responses. In 2004 I developed a retinoschisis (splitting of the retina), which totally changed the size perception in that eye. Cars looked all of a sudden very narrow and high. That could be considered funny, but the headaches weren't. More than a year later, I found Gerard de Wit, who was researching retinally-induced aniseikonia. With his software, we were finally able to quantify and understand what was going on. The measured aniseikonia was completely in accordance with my own observations and the data was very helpful in the communication with the ophthalmologists. Unfortunately, the aniseikonia was so a-typical that optical correction was impossible. Nevertheless, I am very glad to have found Gerard's superb aniseikonia testing service. He has always been very fast with responding to my inquiries, made me understand what was going on, and some of his hints actually helped me cope better with the aniseikonia.
 

Based on the published scientific research, Gerard also seems to be the only person in the world who is really trying to understand better and solve retinally-induced aniseikonia problems. With his aniseikonia testing and optical correction calculation software in place, I think the next step is to integrate the aniseikonia data with other ophthalmic visualization techniques such as OCT scans. This could help the ophthalmologist to better understand the experienced visual changes in relation to the changed pathology. ... I spent a lot of time visiting optometrists, doctors, even psychiatrists trying to get help. Eventually Moorfields gave me an occlusion patch for the right eye.

 
Eventually I discovered that I was suffering from aniseikonia, and this led me, via the internet, to Gerard De Wit's web site 'opticaldiagnostics.com'. Although I did not meet Gerard at that time, I purchased his software and was able, successfully and quite easily, to run the tests for aniseikonia on my laptop. Gerard provided a glasses prescription which Boots the Chemists then dispensed.  I went back to Moorfields and they accepted that the glasses were indeed helpful in partially rectifying the image disparity. 

 

Now that I am developing a cataract in my right eye Moorfields have said that they will consult Gerard when it comes calculating the specifications for the intra-occular lens. I know of no other source of expertise which could have helped my vision in the way that Gerard has. All my efforts to track down his type of in-depth knowledge have only reinforced my belief that aniseikonia is a little-researched condition.
